Position Overview:
The American International School of Lusaka (AISL) seeks a dedicated and student-centered PYP EAL/Learning Support Teacher to join our inclusive learning community. Guided by AISL’s commitment to Equity in Action and our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), this role supports our mission to ensure every learner thrives. The teacher will work collaboratively within the Support Services team, classroom teachers, and families to identify and remove barriers to learning, design equitable supports grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and promote inclusion within the least restrictive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within grade-level and student-support teams to plan, implement, and monitor interventions across all tiers of our MTSS framework.
- Design and facilitate learning experiences that are responsive to students’ strengths, needs, and interests through UDL-aligned instruction.
- Co-plan and co-teach with classroom teachers to embed language development and learning support strategies across the PYP curriculum.
- Provide targeted small-group and individualized instruction that builds academic, social, and emotional success.
- Collect, analyze, and use data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and document student growth.
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues to support shared understanding and consistent implementation of learning goals.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that fosters agency, confidence, and belonging.
- Engage in ongoing professional reflection and growth to deepen understanding of equity, inclusion, and learner variability.
- Support schoolwide initiatives that strengthen equitable, student-centered practices and collaborative professional culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) and valid teaching certification; a master’s degree in Learning Support, Special Education, or TESOL preferred.
- Proven experience supporting children ages 3–12 with diverse learning profiles and English language development needs.
- Strong knowledge of MTSS, UDL, and inquiry-based, concept-driven learning in the IB PYP.
- Demonstrated ability to use assessment and data to inform targeted instruction and measure progress.
- Commitment to collaboration, reflection, and co-teaching in a professional learning community.
- Effective communication, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational ability.
- Experience using technology to enhance learning, communication, and documentation.
- Additional experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Occupational Therapist is an advantage.
