Position Title: IB MYP Music Teacher

Location: American International School of Lusaka (AISL), ZAMBIA 

Reports To: Secondary Principal and CCA Director

Position Overview

The American International School of Lusaka (AISL) is seeking a passionate and innovative educator to join our Secondary team as an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Music Teacher. The ideal candidate will inspire and engage students with the MYP Arts framework to help students create music. This position also includes running Co-Curricular Band, Music Flex options and working with students on performances. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement engaging and effective music units for IB MYP Arts, ensuring full alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework with students keeping a process journal throughout their learning.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that promotes creative risk-taking, collaborative project work, and the effective use of musical instruments and music technology tools and resources.
  • Assess student progress through a variety of methods aligned with the four Arts criteria, providing timely and constructive feedback throughout the process that guides students. 
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Arts Disciplines
  • Manage and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging Music workshop/studio environment and the musical equipment.
  • Participate fully in professional learning opportunities to stay current with IB educational practices, advancements in the Arts and Music technology, along with AISL's mission.
  • Engage proactively with parents and the wider community to support student learning and promote the values and strategic vision of AISL.
  • Contribute to the school's co-curricular activities program (as appropriate to the role).
  • Be a mentor/advisor to a group of students as part of our Ubuntu (Advisory +) program. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music, and/or a related educational field.
  • IB MYP Music experience and training are highly desirable (or a demonstrated commitment to obtaining necessary training).
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in an international or IB school setting.
  • Strong practical skills and knowledge of equipment relevant to the Music curriculum
  • Strong collaborative, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving learning environment.
