Position Overview:
The American International School of Lusaka (AISL) seeks a dedicated and passionate PYP Lower Primary Classroom Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. The ideal candidate is an inspired educator who understands how young children learn best and is deeply committed to fostering curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Grounded in AISL’s commitment to Equity in Action, a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this role calls for a teacher who creates inclusive, joyful, and inquiry-rich learning environments. The successful candidate will embrace the principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and collaborate closely with colleagues to design experiences that nurture the whole child academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement engaging, concept-driven PYP units that promote inquiry, reflection, and authentic learning experiences.
- Create a caring, inclusive classroom culture that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of each student.
- Differentiate instruction using UDL principles to ensure accessibility and challenge for all learners within an MTSS framework.
- Collaborate with grade-level and specialist colleagues to design transdisciplinary learning opportunities and shared approaches to assessment.
- Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction, provide feedback, and guide student reflection and goal-setting.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and caregivers to build strong home–school partnerships.
- Model and promote the IB Learner Profile attributes and international-mindedness within daily classroom life.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflection, and collaboration to continuously refine teaching practices.
- Contribute to the wider school community through participation in events, initiatives, and committees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; teaching certification/license required.
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience, preferably in an international or IB PYP school setting.
- Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning, UDL, and developmentally appropriate practice for early and lower primary years.
- Experience designing learning experiences that integrate MTSS principles to support diverse learners.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships and effective communication with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance teaching, learning, and communication.
- Commitment to collaboration, professional growth, and reflective practice within a learning community.
