Position Overview:

The American International School of Lusaka (AISL) seeks a passionate and collaborative PYP Spanish Language Acquisition Teacher to join our inclusive and dynamic learning community. This role serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 5, supporting a range of learners from those beginning to acquire Spanish to those who speak it as their home or mother-tongue language. Working within AISL’s Language Acquisition Department, which offers both Spanish and French, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the French Language Acquisition teacher to ensure a coherent, balanced, and inclusive approach to language learning across the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and facilitate differentiated language learning experiences that meet the needs of beginning, intermediate, and advanced Spanish learners.
• Align teaching and learning with the IB PYP framework, emphasizing conceptual understanding, inquiry, and authentic communication.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Spanish language learning within transdisciplinary units and real-world contexts.
• Use UDL-aligned practices to remove barriers to participation and to create a joyful, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom.
• Employ varied assessment strategies and tools to monitor progress, guide instruction, and celebrate growth in all areas of language development (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents that supports continued learning and engagement.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Language Acquisition and Support Services teams to ensure coherence within AISL’s MTSS framework for language learning.
• Contribute to a positive, student-centered learning environment that fosters curiosity, confidence, and global-mindedness.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance teaching practice and support the school’s vision of being innovative, inclusive, and imaginative.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum) and valid teaching certification; a master’s degree in Language Education, TESOL, or a related field is preferred.
• Fluent proficiency in Spanish and strong English communication skills.
• Proven experience teaching Spanish to children ages 3–12, across varying proficiency levels.
• Strong knowledge of IB PYP philosophy and inquiry-based, concept-driven language instruction.
• Understanding of MTSS and UDL frameworks and how to apply them in diverse, inclusive classrooms.
• Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction for multilingual and multicultural learners.
• Commitment to collaboration, reflection, and ongoing professional growth.
• Proficiency in using technology to support instruction, assessment, and communication.
